As women, we have a multitude of demands on us and our attention from the moment we wake up to the minute we at last retire to rest each night.
Many of us are thinking about a bunch of commitments, catastrophes, chaos and cool things that we need to be doing while we’re busy doing other things. This multi-tasking takes us away from the present moment and whatever we intend to experience and do.
Too often, I see people run from meeting to meeting and commitment to commitment without taking time out for themselves to be still, get present and set an intention for their next activity, their day or even their lives.
Being present is a gift you give yourself and the person you’re with. It allows you the opportunity to fully experience whatever is happening in the moment. The decisions you make may be clearer and easy to make when you shut off all of those other things that could distract you from what you need to see, hear and feel now.
We’re always making choices – all day long. The more present you become, the more informed you will be before you select your next move and action step.
When you take the time to stop and set an intention, you get the opportunity to connect with and honor YOU before you start going at full speed. It’s similar to setting the rudder of a ship. You need to point it in the direction you want to go in before you accelerate the engine and propel the boat forward.
To set an intention for an activity, your day or your life, simply sit comfortably and get quiet and still. Notice your breath and give yourself the gift of a moment of grace.
This is how you become present to YOU.
Then think about what you are about to do or your day ahead or how you want to live your life.
Now, think about these questions and ask yourself:
- What do you intend to do?
- Why are you doing it?
- What do you hope will come of it?
- Who will benefit and how many lives will you touch with what you are about to do?
When you afford yourself the opportunity to get present in this way, you just may find the world around you is much different than it appeared when you were moving at lightning speed.
You may find your awareness rise about people or things you didn’t notice before. You may also become more aware of your own feeling and thoughts.
Then you can take the time – just a minute or two – to set your intentions for your actions, day and life.
When you do, you just may find a more aligned, peaceful way of working and living – one that is more fulfilling and rewarding and one that’s a lot less stressful and frustrating.
You may also find that you’ll get to spend more time doing what you love with the people who mean the most to you because that is the intention you set.
When you’re present to this, you’ll receive the greatest gifts and the experiences of a lifetime.
You can do it!
