We often talk about what we want but we don’t ever imagine what our lives will be like when we get it!
Oftentimes, we focus too much on the life we’re living now and the present challenges in our lives instead of focusing on the life we’ll be living when we are free of whatever obstacles we have at the moment.
In the great film, Braveheart, by Mel Gibson, William Wallace addresses the sons of Scotland on the battlefield as they face the massive English army and says:
“You’ve come to fight as free men, and free men you are. What will you do with that freedom? Will you fight?”
And the Scotsman says: “Fight? Against that? No, we will run, and we will live.”
Wallace responds by saying: “Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you’ll live. At least awhile. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be wiling to trade all the days from this day to that…for one chance…just ONE CHANCE to come back here to tell our enemy that they may take our lives, but they will never take OUR FREEDOM!!!”
Think about that: will you really let someone or something destroy your spirit so much and so deeply that it keeps you from living the life you were destined to live?
Let life’s setbacks be temporary, quick and easy to let go by. Let them roll past you as fast as you can. Let bygones be bygones. Holding on to them is not helping you get any closer to the life you truly want to live. You are allowing them to steal the very energy and effort you need to put into what you DO want.
These setbacks, big or small, are not consistent or congruent with the life you are supposed to be living so refrain from making them the focus of your life.
Instead keep your sights set on the life you DO want to live. Make choices that are congruent with THIS life.
If you want to live somewhere, drive a particular car, go on a trip to a specific island or location, or something else that is a part of the life you want, then seek it out. Find out what’s required for you to get it. Let discouragement fall by the way side and focus on what you need to put together to get to the life you want. Then each day, chip away at it. Chip, chip, chip, and take another step toward it – one day at a time.
Some days, it will feel effortless and easy, as if you are definitely destined for it. On other days, you’ll need to dig down deep to find the courage you already have inside you to seek it again and go after it the next day.
Use the freedom that you ALREADY have to take action and seek and do the activities that are consistent with what you want.
And that life you say you want? … You shall have it.
You Can Do It!
